Move a placed structure without buying it again

Use the developer-documented relocation sequence:

1. Equip the building tool.
2. Press R to pick up a piece together with everything standing on it.
3. Choose its new placement, checking whether connected belts can reach.
4. Place it again for free.

Belts attached at the piece's ports follow where reachable; this is not an unconditional reconnection guarantee. The evidence does not establish whether relocation preserves stored dust, inventories or processing state. Source: 1.0.5 Move Mode notes.

Cancel or leave Move Mode

Use the control matching your intended action:

Build directly on dusty ground

You no longer need to clean the ground before placing a building piece under the 1.0.5 rules. Every piece can be built on dusty ground, and construction presses the dust beneath it flat. Source: developer building notes.

For foundation placement, aim at the surface you want to use:

• Top: build on the foundation.
• Underside: build beneath it.
• Side: build beside it.

Align and rotate machines

Aim at a foundation to align the Stone Press or another machine with it. Machines sit square to the targeted foundation, align with its edges or center, and otherwise use a 0.5 m grid.

Use the mouse wheel for 90-degree rotation steps, or 30-degree steps on hexagonal foundations. Press F when you want free placement instead. Source: developer machine-snapping notes.

Move or remove?

For relocation, Move Mode provides free placement of the picked-up structure. For removal, patch 1.0.5 refunds the building piece's whole price, replacing the former 75% refund. The refund evidence applies to removed building pieces, not every purchase or item. Source: developer relocation and refund notes.
